In 2018, we published the blog post “Innovative exhibition systems - state of the art”, in which we assumed that classic LED exhibition walls would become increasingly less important, while LED video walls could shape the future of exhibition stand construction thanks to their dynamic display options.
Now it's time to take stock: Which developments have come to fruition, which are surprising today, and what role do modular video walls play in the industry?
Our previous blog post “Innovative exhibition systems - state of the art” from 2018 already highlighted the shift from classic LED exhibition walls to LED video walls. At that time, we suspected that static LED exhibition walls would become less important, while LED video walls with their dynamic display options could shape the future of exhibition stand construction.
The reasons for this change were obvious:
Static content vs. dynamic possibilities: While LED exhibition walls could only display static content such as slide boxes, LED video walls allow the display of moving images and interactive content. These are crucial for attracting the attention of modern trade fair visitors.
Flexibility and cost efficiency: Content can be easily replaced without the need for new production, reducing material and logistics costs in the long term.
Sustainability: Switching from physical print graphics to digital content significantly reduces resource consumption.
The digital exhibition stand relies exclusively on the use of digital technologies to display media. Modern LED panels are used, which can be put together like building blocks to form an exhibition stand.
Thanks to the different shapes of these modules - straight or round - there are no limits to the architecture, size and ideas of digital exhibition stands. In the past, these technologies were often only used as a supplement to existing trade fair concepts due to their high costs. Today, they represent a central solution for a modern and flexible trade fair presence.
LED exhibition stands offer an impressive combination of flexibility, functionality and modern technology. The most important features and technical requirements that enable a successful trade fair presentation with digital LED exhibition walls are explained below.
Modular design:
In addition to the previous LED exhibition video walls, which consist of modules with a standard size of 49.6 x 49.6 cm and a resolution of 160 x 160 pixels (with 3.1 mm pixel pitch) or 192 x 192 pixels (with 2.5 mm pixel pitch), we have also been offering LED panels with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels (with 1.5 mm pixel pitch) since the start of 2024. These make it possible to display 4K videos on smaller surfaces and ensure detailed, impressive images. In addition, our LED video walls offer the option of displaying borderless animations in which content flows seamlessly across multiple modules. This creates a visual unity that captivates the viewer and enables an even more impressive presentation.
Dynamic content playout:
The content on the LED walls is controlled via a multimedia 4G controller. This enables both on-site playout and remote maintenance. In addition, we now also have the option of dividing customer videos into different playlists. This allows our LED controller to automatically play certain videos at set or desired times, which enables even more flexible and efficient content control.
Individual customization:
The flexible modules allow the exhibition stand to be designed according to specific requirements, whether in terms of size, design or content.
Sustainability and reusability:
The use of digital content instead of printed graphics reduces material consumption and ensures a sustainable trade fair presence.
Content formats:
For an ideal display, videos, presentations and images should be created in 16:9 format. Alternative formats require special adaptations. Existing content can be converted or adapted to the appropriate format by our experts. If required, we can also create and produce the content ourselves from the outset to ensure that it is perfectly matched to the LED walls.
Power supply:
LED exhibition stands require a power output of approx. 600 watts per square meter. This should be taken into account in the trade fair planning.
Network independence:
An internet connection is not absolutely necessary, as the controller of the digital exhibition stand is equipped with an integrated SIM card. However, the connection with the SIM card is only valid within the EU, as high roaming charges may apply outside the EU. In these cases, however, the controller can easily be connected to a conventional Internet line at the trade fair
Stand dimensions and content customization:
The size and format of the exhibition stand determine the number of LED modules. For example, a rear wall 2.5 m high and 3 m wide requires a total of 30 modules (5 in height, 6 in width), resulting in a 6:5 aspect ratiot
The importance of LED exhibition walls has decreased in recent years, as LED video walls with their dynamic possibilities are increasingly in demand. Nevertheless, LED exhibition walls remain a practical and cost-effective solution in certain scenarios:
The assumptions have come true: LED video walls are now an integral part of exhibition stand construction. Modular video walls in particular, which can be flexibly adapted and expanded, are setting new standards in the industry.
Dynamic content:
Moving images, animations and interactive elements ensure maximum attention and emotional impact.
Flexibility of use:
Content can be adapted depending on the target group, time of day or type of event - without the need for additional materialsSustainability and cost efficiency:
Modular video walls enable reusability of hardware and minimize waste as new graphics no longer need to be produced.
Interactive technologies and augmented reality (AR)
LED video walls are increasingly being combined with touch or gesture control, allowing visitors to interact directly with the content. Another highlight is the integration of AR applications, which make it possible to experience products or messages in a virtual environment.
Extended modularity and design freedom
The latest developments in modular video walls offer impressive possibilities: curved, multi-dimensional constructions and transparent LED modules open up new perspectives in exhibition stand design. These creative designs turn stands into real visitor magnets. .
Artificial intelligence (AI) for personalized content
AI-supported systems make it possible to adapt content to target groups in real time. For example, trade fair visitors can automatically be shown suitable information depending on their age, interests or language.
The next stage in the development of modular video walls could see the following trends emerge:
The technological shift from static LED exhibition walls to dynamic LED video walls can be clearly observed. While LED exhibition walls are still justified in certain scenarios, modular video walls are now the standard for innovative and sustainable trade fair presentations. They combine maximum flexibility and efficiency with a strong ecological message - a combination that is not only forward-looking, but also creates clear competitive advantages.
For companies that want to create a modern, sustainable and appealing trade fair presence, modular video walls are the essential solution to stand out in an increasingly digital and competitive environment. In addition, each individual wall is tested by us in advance to ensure that everything runs smoothly during the trade fair presentation. The complete system is therefore shipped as a plug & play solution so that no additional preparations are required on site.
